About LG Karlsruhe

Local Group Karlsruhe - officially VWI-ESTIEM-Hochschulgruppe Karlsruhe e.V. - was one of the early members of ESTIEM and joined the network in 1991. Karlsruhe itself is located in the great federal state of Baden(-Württemberg) in the south west of Germany, close to the French border. Situated in the beautiful wine-growing area of Baden, Karlsruhe is one of the sunniest and warmest cities in Germany. The Karlsruhe lnstitute of Technology (KIT) is one of the most known technical universities of the country. LG Karlsruhe is currently active in three dimensions: First of all, being part of the ESTIEM network which enables its members getting to know the most awesome students all over Europe, namely you. Secondly, the VWI (Verband Deutscher Wirtschaftsingenieure e.V. = our German IEM association) which provides a connection to other German IEM students as well as to professionals who are already working. And last but not least a broad range of local activities.

Right from the start, LG Karlsruhe has been one of the most active Local Groups in ESTIEM. A brief look into the past shows three organised Council Meetings and five victories of the admired ESTIEM Travel Award which honours the most active Local Group considering travels and organised events making Karlsruhe one of the most successful Local Groups in this category. Additionally, from 2002 Karlsruhe had 12 members in the ESTIEM Board. Apart from that, LG Karlsruhe has a program for each semester in which the LG organises many excursions or case studies in cooperation with different companies from different industry branches with various areas of expertise. The goal is to broaden the horizon of our members and to give them the opportunity to get to know many different employers in order to help them in their professional career and personal development. So if you visit Karlsruhe, be prepared to encounter: lovely, handsome guys (and handsome girls as well), awesome parties, the best Cheeseburger in town – maybe in Germany? – and of course, hundreds of Klopfers. Hope to see you soon! Knock..knock..knock..knock..knock..knock..knock..knock … Prost!

By Plane

Baden-Airpark is the nearest airport, situated about 40km from the city. The airport is served by low-cost carrier Ryanair, which offers cheap flights to several European destinations. There is a cheap airport shuttle bus (Baden-Airport-Express) (leaving 8 times a day on weekdays, 3 times a day on saturdays, synchronized with the flight schedule) to Karlsruhe Main Station. One-way-tickets can be bought from the driver (9 EUR, cash only, accepted currency: Euro). Alternatively, you can take a bus to Rastatt or Baden-Baden and take a train or a tram-train to Karlsruhe. For more information and timetable visit: Hahn-Express Through-ticketing is available, for current prices and schedules see: Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (Karlsruhe Area Mass Transit Authority)

Frankfurt Airport is Germany's biggest airport and is served by all major carriers that operate in Germany. It has a direct ICE high-speed train connection to Karlsruhe (1 hour, around 35 Euro). For more information and timetables visit: Deutsche Bahn The cheaper option (1.5-2 hour, around 10 €) is the bus. From Stuttgart Airport, Karlsruhe is reachable by train in 1.5 hours (about 20 Euro). Furthermore there are special offers for groups (Baden-Württemberg Ticket is valid from 9:00 am to 03:00 am on the next day and costs 23 €. You can unlimitedly use trains except ICE & IC. You can take up to 4 people with you and each have to pay only 5 € more if you travel together) There is no direct connection, you have to change the train at Stuttgart Central Station. Deutsche Bahn However, there are several direct bus connections from Stuttgart airport to Karlsruhe Central Station (5-15 €). Busliniensuche.de (Departure (Abfahrtsort): Stuttgart Flughafen / Destination (Zielort) : Karlsruhe)

Frankfurt Hahn Airport is about 200km from Karlsruhe and reachable by car and bus. The airport is served by Ryanair and other low-cost carriers. There is an airport shuttle bus (Hahn-Express) leaving twice a day (28 Euro) to Karlsruhe Central Station. For the timetable visit: Hahn-Express

We will provide a room where we can lock (large) valuable articles. However, this will be without liability. We would recommend you to think carefully about what you bring, so ask yourself whether or not it is really necessary to bring your laptop, tablet, smart watch etc. when can you also leave them safely at home instead.

Additionally, it could be useful to bring a personal lock so that you can lock your luggage. Thereby, you will save us and yourself lots of trouble. If you have further questions concerning this topic feel free to contact us.

It is a gym so expect nothing to be there. This means you need to bring a sleeping bag, a pillow, a sleeping mat or whatever makes you comfortable.

Please bear in mind that there will be around 250 people sleeping in a gym so make sure that it is not the end of the world if something gets dirty, lost or damaged. Of course, we will do our best to avoid that, but we cannot guarantee it.

We know that most of you arrive by plane and are quite limited on the luggage you can bring so we will try to provide sleeping mats for all participants who are interested. At the moment, we are not sure if we have enough budget to provide them - we will give you an update about this topic in the Middle of February.

Please avoid further questions or comments regarding this topic - we know your concerns and try our best to offer you as much as possible, however our budget is limited and we have to figure out a way to make it work. As soon as we have an update we will send out information to all participants.
